Ohanaeze PG Urges Igbo Voter Registration, Calls for FG Release of Nnamdi Kanu
The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, has called on all eligible Igbo people to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise across Nigeria. He emphasized that massive voter registration and participation are crucial for the political empowerment of the South-East and for ensuring that the voices of the Igbo people are heard in national affairs.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ohanaeze leader stressed the importance of civic engagement, urging communities, traditional rulers, and youth organizations to mobilize and ensure that every eligible person registers to vote. “Our future and that of our children depend on our ability to influence decisions through the ballot,” he said. “We must not allow ourselves to be marginalized by apathy or low voter turnout.”
The President-General also renewed calls on the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He appealed for a political solution to Kanu’s case, describing his continued detention as a source of tension in the region. “The release of Nnamdi Kanu will go a long way in dousing the tension and fostering dialogue for peace and unity in Nigeria,” he added.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated its commitment to peaceful engagement and urged the Federal Government to demonstrate fairness and inclusivity in addressing the concerns of the South-East. The group also called on Igbo leaders and stakeholders to continue working for unity and progress in the region.
